This is a survey opinion from a
variety of ages, diversity, and ethnic group of what they think about tattoos
and piercings. They were asked about their opinions of tattoos/piercings in the workplace and to give examples of what they've seen or experiment themselves.
The elderly believes that the sight of tattoos and piercings are disturbing when they are seen throughout the individual's body. They believe that tattoos and piercings can greatly decrease an individual's chance of getting a job. They don't understand why one can't keep it simple with one earring on each ear. They don't understand why anyone would want to permanently put ink on their skin. The permanent ink wouldn't look good in the long run when they grow old with wrinkled skin.

Ages 30-55 believes that tattoos and piercings were a mistake in their life.
They were immature, crazy, wild young teens, who got pressured into wanting to
look cool. They are judged as bad people who lack education. They tend to
intimidate people without knowing they did. Others in the age group believe
that tattoos and piercings is a good way to show a person's sense of humor and
personality. They believe that though it may decrease an individual's chance of
getting employed; it could be that the employer also lost one of the best
people they could hire. Either way, tattoos and piercings are becoming a
popular trend, so employers shouldn't be picky with their employees.

Ages 13-30 believe tattoos and piercings are a way of defining themselves. They believe that it
does affect and individual from getting a job. But if they are able to hide it
either with cover ups or simply taking the earrings off, they don't see why or
how it is a big deal about employees having tattoos and piercings. They see
tattoos as artistic work and piercings as unique individuals who go out of
their box to stand out. Others between the age group believe that tattoos and
piercings do affect an individual's work place in the long run. Not only does
it cause judgement in the work place from customers, but it causes judgement
for a lifetime. This is why they choose to have their body clean of ink and try
to stay away from multiple piercings.
One person surveyed said that while they was working at Target, they allowed tattoos and facial piercings in their workplace. Target's employees are expected to be "themselves." However, when they worked at Walmart, they were not allowed any visible tattoos or facial piercings. Their employees were expected to be professional. This individual believe that employees should be allow to show who they are by letting them show their tattoos and piercings. Another said that if employees deal with customers on a daily basis, tattoos should definitely be cover up and piercings be kept at an inconspicuous level.

Conclusion of Survey
As we can see, tattoos and piercings have many different perspectives from many people. There are its goods and bad when it comes to employees having tattoos/piercings. The question is: When is enough enough? Many say that tattoos/piercings is a way to express yourself as an individual. Others say that expression of an individual can be expressed in other ways. Should tattoos/piercings really be a big deal on employees? Should employees be fired or laid off work because of what they choose to have on their bodies? Write down some of your opinions below.
